"soaked in a vat of bourbon..."

I absolutely LOVE Tom Waits. I first heard him in VCE Music class two years ago, when we had to compare and analysis two different versions of the same song. We listened to his cover of "Somewhere" from West Side Story. After class I had a free period and I spent the whole time listening to his songs on Youtube. I was completely captivated, and he had bought out all these different emotions in me all at once, it was like a hurricane but theraputic at the same time. It was strange, but bloody awesome. I can't listen to him too often because I feel so emotionally distraught it's so weird, but he just can soothe me so well also. Every few months I come back to him though, and I realise he never left :')

Tango Till They're Sore makes me just melt. A lot of his songs make me melt actually. I love that he as a person is equally as interesting as his music. He's a compulsive smoker, and if you watch interviews with him he's CLEARLY the stimulus for Heath Ledger's joker, in terms of mannerisms, it's just uncanny. His talking voice is just as captivating as his singing voice, and the lyrics in his songs are so unusual and lovely, it's just beautiful poetry really.

What I also love is his fan base, who just worship him. I feel like we all just are so in love together, and the Youtube comments on all his songs just show how enthralled people are with him. Here are some awesome comments:
"This is the Song I want for my last hour ..."

"A good night: Whisky, dim lights, thunderstorms and Rain Dogs LP. Throw a cigar into the mix and you've got yourself a party for 1."

"tom waits is the only person who can hit all the wrong notes and make them sound just right."

"drunk louis armstrong"

"whenever i die i want this song on full blassssttt and send me off to bed forever more!"

"After smoking heavily for years, cancer dies of Tom Waits."

"This man's name is a sentence on it's own. Tom Waits. Probably because you don't need to say anything after his name - his just that damn good.
Tom Waits."

"both the worst and the best singing voice in the world"

"now the time is 0:52 a.m (Sunday) in japan
i'm drunk and watching this in my room....
goodnight everyone, i'm really feelin' good now...."

"The first time i heard this song i was laying in my hospital bed on one of my last days before getting out... i had an acute spinal inflammation and couldnt walk. always reminds me of looking out the foggy window. in that early november of 2009. i actually get a warm feeling."

"i wish i could hear this song at the very instance i loose consciousness as i go to sleep..."

He's just lovely, and makes me feel philosophical and wise.  Daniel Durchholz described Tom Waits' voice sounding "like it was soaked in a vat of bourbon, left hanging in the smokehouse for a few months, and then taken outside and run over with a car."

I will now leave you with this video; you just need to hear one of Tom's song's to be hooked:

UNIVERSITY

I'm now in week 3 of studying at University of Ballarat, doing a bachelor of arts in Music Theatre! It's been so brilliant. Everything is legit; the teachers, the people, the actual university itself. I'm having the time of my life.

A part of me was super worried about moving here and wondering if I remembered how to make friends, BUT I DO REMEMBER! And everyone is super lovely, there's a real kind of family vibe and I'm just so happy.

Moving out is awesome as well. I hate doing the dishes, but I LOVE the freedom and independence. I don't have to text mum or dad when i'm going to a friends, and cooking my own meals has been easier than I thought. Maybe it's because I've been relying on 2 minute noodles, pasta, and sandwiches.

Anyway everything is wonderful. I've already made so many beautiful friends who are so inspiring and individual and awesome. It's great going home every weekend though, I do miss my family a lot.

EVERYTHING IS HAPPENING!

This is the only photo out of the HUNDREDS I've looked through from Falls Festival that I am in. I bet you can't even spot me.
~
Sydney was so good. The Harry Potter exhibition at the Powerhouse museum was brilliant. I made a vlog about it, which I'll link at the bottom of this post. I met up with Seamus and all his wicked friends while up in Sydney with the fam, and I had such a blast. I completely forgot that meeting people meant individual people with individual personalities. I like to think I made some friends up there, and it's made me so excited to meet new people at university. I hadn't met new people for SO LONG and it was so fresh and exciting!

Australia day was 2 days ago now, and I spent my day at a mate's house for his 19th. I love Australia day, and I am so over people who hate it. The amount of bogan hate that goes down on Australia day, it makes me ashamed and sick. There are FAR more people who laugh at the people celebrating Australia day, and make fun of the thick aussie accents and everything "typically australian" that comes with that than there are actual bogans. Just have a good day. Shut up. Also all this stupid nonsense about having the Australian flag up being racist makes me so mad. To me, and I'm presuming everybody else, that flag symbolises the country that we live in, and being proud of the place we live in, and to all the people that believe anglo/caucasian people are "real" Australians you can shut up too, because this country was developed on migration, you have it in your blood.

Enough ranting! I'm going to share some photos.

Australia day with Kathryn and moo
I've clearly been enjoying the sun
seamus :)

Next week my parents and I are inspecting houses for me to RENT in Ballarat! It is all happening and although I'm nervous I'm excited out of my mindnndnddd! It's going to be so brilliant, I just know it. GAHHHHH

mid january

I can't believe it's already the middle of January, time is going so super fast, and i'm loving it. I think it's because I am guilt free! I am not delaying any form of homework or offputting going to office works to buy new stationary. A lot of people love stationary, and I can understand why, but I think it was one of those things where one person, one really cool person, said that they like it and then everybody else agreed with them. I find it a hassle to buy sometimes, and I think I've still got the brain of 11 year old Darcy when I buy stationary because I always want the stationary that has like super heroes or harry potter on it.

Anyway January has been so good so far! In two days I'm headed off to Sydney to visit the Harry Potter exhibition! That was a present for me and my brother and sister from my parents. Although I'm so pumped, I'm a tad bummed that I am ABSOLUTELY BROKE and won't be able to buy legit ANY merchandise. I'm hoping my super rich 11 year old brother (no sarcasm, he can save money so well) will pity me and buy me a wand or something. Hopefully Lupin's. But yeah I'm also visiting a friend Seamus so that will be wicked fun too.

I've also been trying to find places to rent (OMG ADULTHOOD) in Ballarat for when I move there for University! I'll be studying Musical Theatre and I am SO EXCITED. It'll be such a hectic course, but I'm already used to a ridiculously busy schedule so I should be okay! Anyway the renting thing is kind of scary. Not the bills part, because parents have offered to help, and I'll have a job and such. But the whole living with someone i've NEVER MET and don't even get me started on cooking! Actually mum taught me how to make awesome bolognese sauce today, and I now even know how to cook my own pasta...

Vampire Diaries is intense as always. Every Friday at around 3pm I'm online watching the new episode. I'm also pretty much halfway through the first season of Lost too. Anyway, TVD cast looked lovely as at the Peoples Choice Awards yesterday! Especially Nina; she is such a class act.
She has said in an interview that she usually goes for bright colours. I'm glad she does she pulls it off! She is just every adjective that people use to mean someone looks nice. Not only does she look awesome, she won favourite TV drama actress! So happy for her, she definitely deserved it. I love the complete 180 she does when portraying Elena and Katherine.
These two presented an award and nailed it. How could they not? Awesome.

I'll probably make a blogpost about the HP expo with lots of photos demonstrating how awesomely nerdy I am. Yay! Until then, have a lovely day :)
